The competition between the candidates for the board of directors of SIF Moldova has begun

Mircea Ursache: "I"ve worked in portfolio management and on the stock market since 2001"

Paul Miclăuş: "I am good with funds and financial instruments"

The position of director which SIF Moldova announced has so far sparked the interest of seven people in the industry, but the company will be accepting applications until today, 16:00.

The seven candidates are broker Mihai Chişu, of IFB Finwest, Mircea Oancea, the president of the Commission for the Oversight of Private Pensions, Şerban Valentin Marin, the head of the trading department of UniCredit CA IB Securities, Mircea Ursache, former president of the AVAS, Paul Miclăuş, member of the board at Sibex and former vice-president of the CNVM, Mihail Ioan Mircea Radu, former vice-president of the Romanian National Securities Commission (CNVM), and Laurenţiu Hrebenciuc, the brother of PSD deputy Viorel Hrebenciuc.

The position on the Board of Directors of SIF Moldova became vacant after Matei Alexandru, former head of SIF Moldova, was dismissed on 0September 24th, from the position of administrator, for prejudicing the SIF as a result of the conclusion of certain contracts with companies he or his son had an interest in during his tenure as a CEO of the SIF.

Paul Miclăuş brings to table a lengthy experience in the funds segment

Paul Miclăuş said that what qualifies him for this position is his significant experience in the funds sector, in general, and with the SIFs, in particular.

"The SIFs are at a turning point, after the agreement with Erste concerning the liquidation of the stake in BCR", said Mr. Miclăuş, who added: "They must restructure their portfolios, and learn to make operations which they haven"t taken into account so far.

I feel that I am good at creating instruments, depending on various requirements. The fact that I am a member on the Board of Directors of the Sibiu Exchange is an advantage. I am qualified in funds and financial instruments". Paul Miclăuş said he is feeling honored seeing the names of his competitors for this position.

Since June, Paul Miclăuş is a member on the Board of Directors of the Sibiu Exchange. Prior to that, between 2005 and 2010, he was a vice-president of the Romanian National Securities Commission, and between 2000 and 2005 he was a member of the Commission.

Mircea Ursache brings his expertise with the AVAS and the Proprietatea Fund

Mircea Ursache brings an expertise of more than ten years working on portfolio management and the stock market. "During my two terms as a president of the AVAS, I have managed over 2,000 companies, and at the Proprietatea Fund, I have managed the entire portfolio, of 88 companies. Even back in the time of the Bancorex (ed. note: former Romanian Bank of Foreign Trade), I"ve had a role in managing the bank"s interests", said Mircea Ursache.

He said that even when he worked at the Proprietatea Fund, in 2009, during his second tenure as president, he held talks to have representatives of the Proprietatea Fund be accepted in the management structures of the SIFs. "That was the first time when I expressed the interest in joining the management of the SIFS.

My current application for the position is a consequence of that action", Mr. Ursache said.

The position of Mircea Ursache on the subject of BCR is well known: the bank was supposed to be listed. "The fact that it wasn"t listed represents a violation of the post-privatization terms", he said.

Ursache was a president of the Authority for the Recovery of State Assets (AVAS) and the president of the Supervisory Council of the Proprietatea Fund between January and October 2009. He is currently serving as the chairman of the Board of Directors and the chairman of World Trade Center Bucharest (WTCB).

Laurenţiu Hrebenciuc is a deputy director at Eximbank Bacău.

The former vice-president of the Romanian National Securities Commission (CNVM), Mihail Ioan Mircea Radu, is currently the president and managing director of the Millennium Financial Training Center.
