The State Assets Recovery Authority (AVAS) expects to obtain 1,542,000 RON from the privatization of 283 companies in 2008. The State controls the majority package in only 50 of the respective companies. Most of the State-controlled companies will be privatized through auction.
The privatization program for 2008 indicates that all companies in AVAS" portfolio that can be privatized are green-lighted for privatization except the energy companies that are part of the Government"s strategy to create a vertically integrated energy corporation.
The schedule for the first quarter of 2008 includes 75 companies, of which 20 are controlled by the State. Buyers have already been selected for six of the latter. Privatization procedures have already been started for 12 companies in which the State holds a minority package.
