PD-L deputy Daniel Oajdea yesterday announced that he has filed a draft bill aimed at capping wages in several major public institutions: the National Securities Commission (CNVM), the Insurance Surveillance Commission (CSA), the Private Pension Surveillance Commission (CSSPP) and the Proprietatea Fund.

The Democrat-Liberal deputy had a similar initiative at the end of October 2009, when, together with 20 other members of the Parliament, he forwarded a letter to the officials of the International Monetary Fund requesting the revision of Romania"s foreign loan agreement, in order to have the employees of the Central bank, CNVM, CSA, fall under the scope of the law on unified public sector wages.

Daniel Oajdea said he has submitted this draft law because he has noticed several omissions of the aforementioned law, which means some public sector employees continue to have "salaries that beggar belief".

According to Agerpres, he said: " Cost cutting measures are being implemented all over the country. In some areas, this had led to the closing of schools and subsequently children being denied education, while the taxes their parents are forced by the law to pay go towards paying the humongous salaries of some people in the public sector".

The member of the PD-L said that the only institution that is not included in his bill is the NBR. He said including the Central Bank on the list would have considerably diminished the chances of the bill being passed.
