The City Hall of Iaşi, has ruled, due to the lack of bidders, the increase of the amount initially allocated for the feasibility studies and the technical projects for the construction of five tunnels. The tunnels will help clear the traffic in some of Iaşi\"s busiest crossroads. Thus, even though the initial budget was 200.000 lei, at the beginning of this year the budget was increased to 1 million lei. "It is possible that the five-fold increase of the initially allotted budget may seem too big, but we have to consider that these works are extremely important for the city and they have to be executed by professionals", Andrei Trofor, spokesperson for the Iaşi City Hall, stated.
The tender for the selection of the companies which will carry out the feasibility studies and the technical projects of the five tunnels will be held on January 6th. The documentation will be executed in two packages. The first package will deal with the studies concerning the execution of the tunnels in the Fundaţie area, which is intended for connecting the Păcurari Road to the Independenţei Boulevard, with 500 000 lei to be allotted for this package. A second package, for which the allotted budget is also 500.000 lei, aims to accomplish the feasibility study for four other tunnels, of which three will connect the piers of the Bahlui river in the areas of Metallurgy, Tudor Vladimirescu and Podu Roş. The last tunnel will be built at the intersection of Târgu Cucu.
