The juniors from the alpine skiing sports clubs in our country will compete on the 25th and 26th of January 2024 in the sixth edition of the Teleferic Cup, an event that will take place on the Superior Wolf Slope in Poiana Braşov.
After an interruption caused by the Covid 19 pandemic and another caused last year by the lack of snow, the organizers managed to prepare a new edition of the Teleferic Cup in 2024, which is part of the competitive calendar of the Romanian Ski and Biathlon Federation.
More than 100 children with a maximum age of 12, but also the juniors from the Under 14 and Under 16 groups of the country's alpine skiing clubs will fight for the podium in the slalom and giant slalom events. According to the representatives of the Comprest Amenajare Pârtii Poiana Braşov company, the competition track will be up to the standards expected by athletes and coaches, having been prepared ahead of time, the snowfall at the end of last week maintaining optimal conditions for the event.
Teleferic Grand Hotel Poiana Braşov, but also the already traditional partners - Mastercard, Husqvarna, BCR, Altex, Băneasa, Călimani, Cefin Trucks, Stoica si Asociaţii, Omniasig and O'Fresh - put important prizes up for grabs so that the competition is as interesting. The age categories accepted in the competition are HC (up to 12 years old), U14 and U16, and the prizes are not to be neglected: 1,200 lei for the 1st place holders for both girls and boys, 1,000 lei for the 2nd place and 800 lei for those in 3rd position at the end of each test.
Ştefan Ţînţ, the initiator of the competition, told us: "The idea of this competition, since the first edition in 2017, was to revive alpine skiing on a national level. Even though the last few years have been more difficult, we have continued to try to awaken the appetite of young people for this sport. The Teleferic Cup is the only alpine skiing competition in our country that offers children and juniors cash prizes, amounts that are important both for them and for the clubs they train at. For next year, we want to offer more attractive prizes, i.e. the participants who will finish in the first 6 or 12 places in each trial will benefit from two weeks of free training in a country in the Alps. We hope to attract as many participants as possible to this competition".
The organizers told us that the budget allocated this year for the competition amounts to 75,000 euros, of which 25,000 is the contribution of the Teleferic Grand Hotel and the Husqvarna company, next year the budget will increase by 50% to ensure the necessary amount for the athletes who will be sent to prepare for two weeks in a country in the mountains of the Alps.
We note that there is no participation fee for the alpine skiing competition that will take place in the middle of this week in Poiana Braşov, and the participants of the competition have provided transport to the starting line by the company Ana Teleferic, which manages the cable transport in Poiana Braşov.
