Austrian salt company Salinen Austria is interested in the privatization of Romanian state-owned salt producer Salrom and is willing to invest 60 million EUR in its modernization over the next three years, according to the company"s Commercial Director Stefan Maix. The Authority for State Assets Recovery will appoint a privatization consultant this summer and the privatisation bid will organized by year-end.
Salinen Austria is interested in aquiring all of Salrom"s operations, as Salrom representatives believe a company split would not be profitable. Following the privatization, the personnel will be reduced to from 2,100 to 1,400 employees. Laid-off employees will receive guaranteed severance payments.
Salt producer Salinen Austria currently operates in Central and Southeastern Europe. The company has a production capacity of 850,000 tons, which will be increased to 1.2 million tons by the end of 2007.
