On Tuesday, SNC-Lavalin (TSX:SNC) of Montreal announced that its branch SNC-Lavalin Nucléaire won a contract of approximately 48 million dollars with the Nuclearelectrica National Company (Societatea Naţională Nuclearelectrica - SNN) of Romania, according to the national radio station Radio-Canada, quoted by Mediafax.
This contract concerns the installation of reactor containment filtered venting systems at the Cernavodă Nuclear Plant.
The vice-president of Groupe SNC-Lavalin Patrick Lamarre announced in a press release that this project is part of an industry-wide upgrade strategy for nuclear plant safety in the event of serious accidents or natural disasters, such as those that occurred at Fukushima, in northern Japan.
Engineering and procurement activities are underway. Construction and preparation will begin in the next unit outages. The works are expected to be completed in late 2013, the Canadian national radio announces.
