All tourism-related assets on the Romanian seaside that are still owned by the State will be put up for privatization, according to Minister for Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses, Commerce, Tourism and Liberal Professions Ovidiu Silaghi. He added that the well-known hotels Belvedere, Panoramic and Amfiteatru in Olimp would be put up for sale in the autumn.

According to the minister, the "deplorable condition" of the State-owned tourism-related assets on the seaside is a very strong reason to expedite privatization. Besides privatization, important investments are also required to bring hotels into good shape. Concurrently, quality audits will be performed and those hotels found in noncompliance with their current classification will be demoted.

Another recurrent problem is related to the lack of qualified staff, as the large majority of qualified hospitality industry staff have left to work abroad. To correct the situation, the Ministry of Labor will use 3.3 billion EUR in a bid to secure qualified staff for the tourism industry.

Other plans include a ban on construction works during the hot season and a regulation to close all outdoor discos after 1 a.m. As far as occupancy is concerned, the indicator reached 80% for weekdays and 110% for weekends in July and August.
