Grapes are the stars of every fall. Between August 30-31, the commune of Sânmartin will host a special event dedicated to table and wine grapes, offering the public the chance to discover and taste more than 50 noble varieties. The exhibition is organized with an educational purpose, giving attendees the opportunity to learn directly from experts about the various grape varieties and how they can be grown successfully.

Educational event

Daniel Boţa, the main organizer of the exhibition, emphasized that the event is designed to bring consumers into direct contact with the product, offering a concrete and tangible experience. "It's a different kind of event, a tangible, concrete one, where everyone can choose which type of grape is more suitable for their personality," said Boţa during a press conference.

In addition to the commercial purpose, the organizers aim to educate the public through practical activities such as organic vegetable growing courses, vine pruning and introduction to wine culture. The partners of the event include the Faculty of Environmental Protection - Department of Agriculture and Horticulture, the Association for the Culture and Civilization of Millesime Wine, and the Danvert company from Bihor.

Tastings and consulting for small producers

During the two days, the specialists from Danvert will offer free tastings of grapes and must, along with consulting for small producers interested in cultivating noble varieties. This is an essential aspect, considering that in Bihor county there are still many hybrid vineyards, which do not offer the desired quality. Through the exhibition, participants will be able to discover the most suitable varieties for their area and receive advice on how to replace hybrid vines with noble ones.

Unique Varieties

During the exhibition, both table and wine varieties will be presented, including rare and unique varieties, such as the Bakator variety, specific to the Crişana area. Among the table varieties that will be available for tasting are Eva, Treasure of Pannonia, Muscatul de August, Italia, Afuz Ali and Victoria. For wine, visitors will be able to taste the famous Fetească albă, Fetească regală, Fetească neagra, Traminer and Pinot Gris, alongside apine (seedless) varieties such as Sultanina, Jupiter and Regina Saba. Dorin Popa, president of the Millesime Wine Culture and Civilization Association, explained the essential differences between table and wine grapes, highlighting the importance of crispness and the balance between acidity and sweetness in table varieties.

Future for local agriculture

Mihai Cărbunar, a professor specialized in vegetable growing and organic grape grower, emphasized the potential of Bihor to become an important producer of table grapes: "I think that Bihor has potential for table grapes as well, so that we can go to the market with a product local of Bihor,".

The exhibition will be open to the public between 8am and 8pm, providing a platform for education and exchange of experiences between producers, consumers and experts in the field. The organizers hope to turn this event into an annual tradition, with the support of local and county authorities.

The Sânmartin grape exhibition is not only an opportunity to discover and taste quality grape varieties, but also an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of viticulture. The event demonstrates the commitment of the organizers to promote local products and improve the quality of wine production in Bihor. With great potential for development, table and wine grapes can become a central element of Bihor's agriculture, contributing to the local economy and the health of consumers.
