The Ministry of Education will implement a national program to reduce university dropout rates. The announcement was made by Minister Ligia Deca, who participated in two sessions dedicated to European Union education ministers at the Informal Meeting of Education and Youth Ministers held in Zaragoza, Spain. According to Ligia Deca: "The first session focused on supporting the transition from pre-university education to higher education, as well as providing support to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Ministry of Education will implement a national program to reduce university dropout rates. The program will support teachers in offering remedial courses to students facing difficulties, and policies and practices for re-enrollment and reintegration of students, such as 'Second Chance' initiatives, will be developed. Additionally, we will support students from families with low levels of education through programs like 'First-Generation College Student'."
The second working session was dedicated to promoting democratic citizenship and common values in the European Union. Minister Ligia Deca presented examples of good practices from Romania, including Civic Education as a subject taught from primary school level, as well as other subjects such as Critical Thinking, Children's Rights, Intercultural Education, or Education for Democratic Citizenship: "We emphasized Romania's involvement in proposing a set of indicators for monitoring and assessing fundamental values as a central element of the European Higher Education Area."
Additionally, Ligia Deca had a meeting with Secretary of State Natalia Miteva from the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, where they discussed the exchange of best practices in education development.
