Approximately 2,000 employees of the mining industry and energy companies that have mining divisions (the energy facilities in Oltenia) could be laid off in 2009-2010.
"The emergency ordinance concerning the setup of the legal framework regulating layoffs from the mining industry and the energy companies having mining divisions has been signed by the Government and will soon be published in the Official Journal. Each company relevant company will propose the number of employees they need to lay off. As an estimation, approximately 2,000 jobs could be cut in 2009 and 2010," Ministry of Economy Secretary of State Alexandru Patruti told Agerpres.
According to him, each company in the industry, such as the Oltenia Lignite National Company (Societatea Nationala a Lignitului Oltenia (SNLO) and the energy facilities in Rovinari and Turceni, will present a reorganization programme including job cut proposals. According to the normative act signed by the Government, the employees to be laid off will receive monthly severance until end-2012.
