The Executive manager of the Agricultural and Rural Development Directorate, Danut Szasz, declared yesterday that producers from Brasov have received 20 certificates for traditional products. These products have been certified only for Romania, but once the traditional products" registration and protection procedures are established, a european certification will be attempted.
The 20 traditional products belong to the cheese and pastry categories, but also of that of sheep meat products. As a consequence, in Brasov products such as Motoc goat"s skin cheese, Ciucas goat"s skin cheese and Ciucas salted cheese are protected. Also protected, under the Ion Istrate - Feldioara brand are goat"s skin cheese, salty cheese, sweet and smoked cheese, smoked goat"s meat and green cheese.
The Ministry of Agriculture will establish until the 15th of November the traditional products" European Union registration and protection procedures. The documentation will be submitted starting January 1st.
The agricultural and traditional food products can be currently registered at The Ministry of Agriculture and are protected nationwide, but not in the EU, the common market protection system becoming operational the 1st of January 2008.
Our country and Bulgaria, who have become members of the EU the 1st of January 2007, benefit of a grace period of a year in order to get the traditional products" protection system up and running.
The Ministry has decided to draw up the procedures romanian producers will have to follow in order to register traditional products at a european level, until the 15th of November.
Currently, over 50 traditional products are registered and protected by national laws in Romania,including cheese and smoked cheese, as well as pastry, meat, alcohol, fruit and vegetable, honey or dairy industry products.
