According to a draft decision published on its website, the Ministry of the Economy, Trade and Business Environment (MECMA) may layoff 200 employees of the Turceni Energy Complex by the end of the year.
Following the announced layoffs, the state budget/unemployment fund will allocate 1.709 million lei/ year in 2011 and 2012 for the payment of unemployment benefits.
The laid off employees will benefit from the provisions of the Emergency Government Ordinance 116/2006 concerning social protection granted to workers who lost their jobs through collective layoffs due to the restructuring and reorganization of national companies, public corporations, and companies in which the state is owned by majority shareholders, as well as due to the reorganization of companies and public corporations controlled by the local administration authorities.
According to the substantiation note, the announced layoffs are intended to improve the efficiency of the operations of the Turceni Energy Complex.
