Hilton expanded its Romanian network with a new hotel, which was inaugurated at the end of last week in Sibiu. The 5-star hotel Palace Resort & Spa, owned by businessman Nicolae Minea, has become part of the Hilton network and will operate as a franchise, after the signing of a contract signed between Hilton Hotels Corporation (HHC) and SC Palace Dumbrava SRL.

The Hilton hotel in Bucharest which is controlled by Ana Hotels, part of the holding owned by George Copos, operates under a management contract, according to Agerpres.

The Sibiu Hilton has 115 rooms and a conference room which can accommodate up to 1,000 guests.

Hilton"s Vice President of Development - Northern Europe, Mike Collini, said: "Romania offers major development opportunities for us, given the fact that there are few domestic hotels affiliated to international hotel chains. Romania is sorely lacking quality hotels and that is why we see a significant growth potential in bringing the Hilton brand to all the major cities and regional centers in Romania. We are currently reviewing Braşov, Timişoara, Constanţa and Cluj-Napoca". The Athenee Palace hotel in Bucharest, currently called Athenee Palace Hilton was built in 1914.
