New car sales surpassed last month 14.000 units, down 4,3% compared to the nearly 15.000 cars sold in January 2006, according to data published yesterday by the Association of Automotive Manufacturers and Importers in Romania (APIA), quoted by NewsIn. Thus, 14.326 de automobiles were sold in January 2007, down 4,3% from the 14.973 cars sold in January last year. Commercial vehicle sales also dropped 19,4%, from 2.277 to 1.836 de units.
Overall auto sales in January 2007 reached 16.390 automobiles, 5,5% less than the 17.343 units sold in January 2006. Domestic car output amounted to 15.552 units in January 2007, down 5,5% compared to the 16.456 automobiles manufactured in the first month of last year. However, exports gained 82,5%, reaching 10.155 units, compared to January 2006, when 5.563 units were exported, according to an APIA report.
In January, automobile imports rose by 21% to 10.898 units, whereas in the corresponding month of 2006 imports reached 9.000 de units. Including commercial vehicle sales, Romanians bought 297.162 automobiles last year, 15,9% more than in 2005.
