• December - big drop in new buildings and residential constructions
The turnover of construction works increased in 2008 by 26% YOY. A press release from the National Statistics Institute (INS) says that this growth is noticeable for all types of constructions: non-residential buildings, (+32.7%), civil engineering (+25.9%) and residential buildings (+18.3%).
All components saw increases across structural elements as well. Thus, maintenance works and current repairs grew by +32.6% in the period mentioned, capital repair works - by +30.9% and new constructions - by +22%.
The total construction turnover in December 2008 grew by 0.1% when compared with November 2008. Civil Engineering saw a +4.5% increase, and non-residential buildings grew by +0.1%. However, for residential buildings, The National Statistics Institute however logged a 7.2% drop in December 2008, as against the previous month. Also, December saw a 9.3% increase for maintenance and current repairs work, and for capital repair works (+4.7%). New constructions saw a -4.3% drop in December 2008.
