National gas carrier "Transgaz" will begin negotiations with the Bulgarian authorities in order to build an interconnection pipeline, Ioan Rusu, general manager of Transgaz, said. He explained: "We will contact our colleagues of Bulgaria"s Bulgargaz in order to establish a meeting with them and we will discuss the possibility of building a interconnection pipeline. We had some preliminary talks during the meeting of the Nabucco consortium, which was held in Budapest, at the end of January".
According to NewsIn, Romania does not have any pipelines for connecting to its neighbors, and because of this it can not receive nor aid its neighbors by providing them with gas. Romania only has one pipeline project under way for connecting to its neighboring countries, specifically Hungary. More to the point, we"re talking about the pipeline currently under construction between Szeged (in Hungary) and Arad. The gas pipeline will be completed by January 1st 2010 and will have an output of 4.4 billion cubic meters a year, or an hourly output of 500 000 cubic meters /hour. The pipeline will have a total length of 109 km and it will have a diameter of 700 mm. In Romania, the interconnecting pipeline has a length of some 62 km between the Horia junction point (near Arad) and the border crossing point Csanadpalota (Nădlac) on the border between Romania and Hungary.
