PSA Peugeot is interested in opening an engine factory in Romania, in Brasov or in the Timisoara - Arad area. The final decision will be made after considering other opportunities in Poland, Turkey and Ukraine, too. According to PSA Peugeot Citroen spokesman Laurent Cicolella, the search for a suitable site started a few months ago and Romania is on the shortlist.
The French carmaker is ready to invest 600 million EUR in two new engine factories, one in France and one in Eastern Europe (Romania, Poland, Turkey or Ukraine). Among the selection criteria are costs, infrastructure, logistics and geographical location. The final decision will be made in the second half of the year. The future factory is scheduled for commissioning in 2012.
Brasov is also competing with Poland to host a Daimler factory. Daimler is ready to invest approximately 300 million EUR in a site measuring over 200 hectares.
